Coexist is the outcome of an artistic research project on quantum physics by Emergence Delft. This life-sized, multidimensional installation transforms fundamental principles of quantum physics — such as superposition and the measurement problem — into an immersive sensory experience. Coexist invites reflection and dialogue on our society and the role quantum technology plays within it.
The installation features 10 stainless steel frames , each holding a rotating plexiglass disk powered by a transparent belt. A polarising filter on the disk allows us to separate white light from the central light tower into vibrant, distinct colors.
Working alongside a team of 16 students with the student team Emergence Delft has been my biggest project so far. Emergence Delft is a student collective where art and engineering students collaborate to create new media art. As part of this team, I worked for half a year full time to design and manufacture our installation — an amazing experience that revealed both the challenges and the beauty of truly interdisciplinary collaboration.
